I haven't been on this board long, so maybe this has already come up. But I've been wondering ... when you make a quilt as a gift for a family member or friend, do you wash the quilt before giving it as a gift? Or do you leave it as it is so everything is crisp and "unwrinkled"? Thanks for the feedback.

I don't prewash before giving them as I like the crisp clean look to them. Others I know wash to give them the wrinkled look .

It depends on who I am giving it to, some have allergies and can only use certain detergents/softeners. Other's I wash if I haven't prewashed the fabric. Each situation is different... :D:D:D

I always wash mine before giving; God only knows what might be lurking on the poor thing by the time I'm done! It's not as bad now that the cats have all passed on... but I quilt where ever can, inside, outside....so far, I've been able to manage to to keep food away ..... hmmmmm cookies & quilting, just sorta go together......

I wash because I have cats, and I don't want the quilt to have any kitty hairs on it. My babies roam our entire house, so it's entirely probable the quilt will have hairs on it. I wash, dry and put immediately into a plastic bag.

I like to wash it cause for some reason I am always terrified that I will pull it out of the washer in shreds or something lol. So I wash it and make sure everything holds together and that nothing bled or anything. :)

I wash before giving. Mostly because my kitty, Molly, likes to "help" with all the quilts I make, but also just to be sure it will make it through the wash without falling apart.
