Make sure your feed dog gear isn't cracked. I found an almost new Janome computerized machine at a resale shop for a great price. I tried it out and everything worked until I tried to sew. It wouldn't feed. I took the bobbin case out and the needle plate off and lo and behold the gear was broken. I left it there. Thick layers of flannel are a good way to crack the gear on a low to mid-range priced machine. They are not built for that abuse. I don't know what machine you are using - just offering another suggestion.

Thanks to all for those suggestions. I have decided to wait until after the holidays to test it out. I did clean everything as stated and still didn't work. I need to check the stitch length and presure setting. It is closed in its nice little cabinet right now with my MIL's Singer 201 sitting right on top! I have already finished a third rag quilt and am half way done with the fourth. Now on to the AG doll bedding and "fiddling" around with the Kenmore after Christmas!

To all of you who helped with this problem...THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took a toothbrush to the feed dogs. What appeared to be perfectly clean had soooooooooo much lint in it. I was shocked. The lint matched the color of the feed dogs, so you couldn't really tell there was a lot of lint in there. Problem solved for the time being. All the big rag quilts are sewn for Christmas. Now comes clipping them. :-(

Now I can move on to the AG doll bedding for 4 little GD and since my machine is in a cabinet, I now have my "sewing table" back.

Thanks again to all of you. Bless your hearts.

Great news! It is amazing how much lint can build up. When I bought my used machine, there was essentially a felt pad of lint beneath the feed dogs.

    Cheers, K
