I was finishing up a quilt today, and just before I put on the binding, I noticed my serger sitting on the floor (where it goes when I need ROOM!). I grabbed it and ran the quilt edges around in it ..... and it worked great!! No escaping edges when I put the binding on, and really smooth when sewing. I'm sure going to remember it when I do any more quilts - as far as I'm concerned, even though it's probably not "traditional", it saves me time and effort, and that makes it great.

That's a good idea! I always have issues with my serger (it's about 20 yrs old), so I don't use it as much as I'd like ~ I get too frustrated. I use the serpentine stitch along the outside edge to keep the fabric nice and flat when binding.

I've even udsed my serger to stitch pieces together. I get a nice 1/4 inch seam and no raveling!

No, I don't have a serger, but I do zigzag around the edge before I bind to help with the fraying.

I tried this once but found was picking out serger thread after.
How big do you cut your binding? I was taught at qclass to cut 21/4.
I`ve never played around with the width on the serger can you get it narrow enough?
Thanks Gale

Silly question here... What is a serger? and can you explain a little bit further on what you did? I have trouble with my bindings. Thanks Beth
