What you didn't tell us was whether this was a student? or adult? for whom you will never proofread for again!!!
Adult who is a "permanent" substitute teacher. (Not a trained teacher but someone filling in long term for a regular teacher.) Seemed a little discourteous...

I do neither, and hate for people to use abbreviations when they could just as easily print the meaning out or orally say it. This high tech world we now live in is truly ruining our children in school. I am a retired First Grade teacher and retired in 2004. A few years before retirement, our brilliant state legislators and educators decided that Handwriting and Spelling were no long necessary as part of the curriculum, how sad. When tutoring after retirement, many of my 4th and 5th grade students did not even know how to write their name or write anything else. They could print whatever they wanted, but could not write it in cursive handwriting. So many could not spell anything either. I suppose Math and Reading will be next. Sorry will not step down from my "Soap Box."
First let me say, I"m having a blast reading all the post which sidetracked off the initial question, but I understand. Unfortunately for me, spelling was not my best subject, nor proper English. I was raised by wonderful parents whom gave up many things to give us a proper education, however, being raised in an area where everyone spoke broken English, how else was I to speak. Raised on the River in "Cajun" territory. Now we weren't dumb, just spoke broken English. Then I started to work for the local phone company and when we noted records ( to save space) it was written with no vowels. Like, Cus cld 2dy. So I didn't need to know how to spell, and thank God for spell check, cause I'm horrible. My oldest daughter corrected my English all the time, but I told her " What you expect, I'm a "coon-ass" and we don't speak properly. But math, I still use my brain, calculators are used when I need to add lots. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. My beef with the young is respect, no work ethics, laziness, and them thinking " I can't help, that's not my job," or "I don't want to sweat for money." I"m am so thankful to have been raised where hard work was expected. Okay, I'm off my soapbox now.
Oh, about the original question. I agree their should be a spot for explanation of abbreviations.

And hopefully not your child's permanent-fill-in-non-trained teacher!

A Garmin is a Global Positioning System. Love our Garmin-saved us on many occasions. Nope, neither one of us have those fancy shmancy phones that do everything except wash out your underwear for you.
For the purse pattern and the OTL, I would think if you would have given the name of the purse, designer, or site where you found the pattern, you may have had your answer within the first few posts. Many of us have purse patterns and many of us love perusing the web and finding stuff out. Happy to help if you can give us more info. Not all patterns are written clear-cut.

Just want to give my opinion on abreviations: as a retired RN I have seen my share of other nurses make up their own abreviations when charting that are not even legal!

Thank you for straightening out my muddled answer to GPS. I came in to do that this morning to see you already told everyone what GPS actually stands for, lol!
