I have made down jackets, vests, parka and full length robe. These were made 30 years ago and are still warm and comfortable. You used to be able to purchase down at Three Dog Down in Polson MT, which is where I purchased mine.

If you decide to make a quilt or duvet with down it will be much easier if you use fabric softner sheets on you hands and arms. The down won't stick to you then.

how do you keep the down where you want it to be while you're quilting? isn't it puffing up all over the place inside the cloth? when you buy a down comforter the down always shifts to the bottom of the baffles and then the top of the baffles are empty. i thought that was the beauty of down substitutes. they stay in place and are easily washed and dried. i'm wearing a down vest now and the bottom of the boxes are full while the tops are empty. i'm only partly warm.

also, won't the down leak out of the seams and stitching holes the way they do in regular usage?

i wouldn't put that through my expensive machine.
