Have you thoght about a black/red checkered border?
They are really cute and more whymsical.

My only objection to the borders would be if this is for a white cat. That black border will soon be loaded with visible cat hair.
The borders look just fine, though.

Oh, that is so cute! I was thinking of ordering that kitty fabric to make my cat a new quilt! He has a string quilt now.
