How difficult is a double wedding ring to do? I would like to
make a bed runner for my brother and sister-in-law's
50th wedding anniversary. I'm just curious. If I feel it's
beyond me, I won't do it.

I thought this quilt was just perfect...You get the feel for the wedding ring but aren't committed to a huge project. It looks so elegant.

I'm working on a DWR right now (and have been for a little while). It isn't easy, but it isn't impossible either.
The pattern I'm using is paper pieced and from McCall's: http://www.mccallsquilting.com/patte....html?idx=6913
I did paper piece the arcs by machine, but I am not paper piecing anything else and have switched to hand piecing the arcs to the "melons", etc.
I am of the school that says do whatever inspires you and learn the skills you need to do it along the way. It takes me longer to get where I'm going sometimes, but if I want it enough I always get there!

I have made 3 DWRs and about to begin another. Making one is just a matter of time. Don't hurry. As you go along, it will become simpler. As was suggested, make a table runner or whatever, something small to get the feel. I have thought of placemats, but 1 ring would not be large enough, and 2 perhaps too big. I'll see. Good luck.

I got the templates from Jo-anns a couple of years ago. They are acrylic and work great. They make it so much more accurate. Before I got these, I thought making a DWR would be impossible, but, not to bad. Time consuming but fun.
