I have a Designer SE embroidery machine. I would like to purchase embroidery software but am not sure what the best one would be for a starter progam. Do any of you have any suggestions as to what ones are good? I don't know that much but would like to learn, I want to be able to take a picture and turn it into an embroidery for one thing and I want to be able to design simple embroideries also. I am not completly sure what it is that I need to be able to do these types of things though. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

A friend of mine uses this one with very good results:

I looked into it at some point but digitizing takes up precious quilting time. I buy my patterns already digitized by someone else and just sit back and waych my machine do the work.

I have Embird but it is very pricey, and I also use Embroidery magic.

OESD has a program called Explorations that I am using. You can start smaller and upgrade as you "grow" into it..or not if you choose. It allows you to "take apart" designs and arrange them on your own with the most basic package (which is mostly what I do)...then you can add components to the programs and even digitize if you choose. Its called Explorations. I thought I would want to digitize, etc., but I found that I would rather spend my time with quilting...and buy designs close enough to what I want right now. Maybe someday though..hope you find what you are wanting!

Thank you all, it gives me more to think about to make a choice.

I have the 4d (mine is Pfaff but it is identical to the Viking) which I love - the best thing about it/them is that the both will link directly to your Designer via USB. All you do is hit send. Also - my recommendation is go for the gold - get the professional one with the digitizer etc. I think you might regret it later on if you do not. Good luck.
