Congrats on your great find, perhaps others weren't as interested in the fabric and sewing items to take notice.

A quilting friend of mine was teaching her two granddaughters how to quilt and sew. Mind you, these girls are in their early 20's and married, so not little kids. Between this grandmother, the girl's mother, the grandmother on the paternal side, and the girls, they were able to put together enough money to buy each of the girls used Bernina's in great shape, and the girls are thrilled! But neither of them had much of a stash, so I suggested to my friend that she list what she needs for the girls under "Looking to Find" (or whatever the name of that section on Craig's list where you're trying to locate items). So she did. She was absolutely gobsmacked when she got 9 good responses! These were people who could no longer sew, but had lots of stash and notions left over. There were couple calls where the person was in a Nursing Home, never to return home, and the family was trying to get a head start on cleaning things out. There was also one lady who thought she wanted to sew, and had gone out and bought all kinds of fabric, all quilt shop quality, and then she decided she hated sewing and quilting. Anyway, my friend went to all 9 of these places, with money left over from the collection for the sewing machines, and did she hit the jackpot! She was able to get large and good quality stashes for both girls, along with all kinds of notions, rulers, storage units, thread, etc. etc.! She also got enough to replenish her own stash. She ended up with so much fabric that she donated about 60 yards to her Church quilting group. And she got it dirt cheap.

So I suppose the moral is, don't wait for a listing on Craig's list, or elsewhere. Put in an ad for looking for whatever you need, and let's hope your luck is as good as my friend's. It was amazing the people she found who were more than willing to part with good stuff cheap, but just didn't have the "gumption" to do the ad themselves.

My daughter in IL got all of what was left of fabric, notions and crafts at an estate sale for $1. Five boxes and she is planning on sending most of it to me. I'm excited! She said one bag with uncut fabric had a Marshall Field receipt from 1969.

Super! Couldn't find that here in New orleans. I don't think we have a lot of people that quilt here. I guess cause it's not a necessity thing.
