Has anyone made a quilt from African fabrics? A very good friend of mine just returned from Ghana with about 20 yards of fabric that I don't know what to do with. It's beautiful and vibrant and I don't want to cut it up. I don't know what pattern it wants to be. Any ideas? The pictures don't do them justice. I have more but this is all my son took pictures of earlier. There is WAY more than this but it gives you an idea at least.

They are beautiful fabrics - what a wonderful friend. You will need to be very creative to bring them all together. Good luck. Actually it appears to me there will be more than one quilt here.

Oooh I love that blue fabric! Could either cut it into squares and have the squares be the blocks or use it as a border.

the first one that I assume is red would be a great panel for a quilt. Others are great, too. (looks pink on my monitor)

There is a book called "Just Can't Cut It" with patterns for fabrics with large or beautiful designs that you don't want to cut into smaller pieces. Here's the link:
    http://www.amazon.com/Just-Cant-Cut-.../dp/156477449X

Another website has Patterns for Fabric Panels. It's aimed mostly at the large Asian patterns but it has good ideas for using large amounts of fabric without cutting it up. Here's the link: http://www.shiboridragon.com/Patterns-Panels.htm

This is a link to a quilt book called Big Print Quilts: http://www.google.com/products/catal...ls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=17190934465909755682&sa=X&ei=fBdfTpraD4TmiALpz8TSDg&ved=0CHUQ8wIwAw

Book: Quilts Sew Quick, for large print fabric:

Maverick Quilts: Using Large Scale Fabric:

Maybe one of these will inspire you. Sorry about the long url's on the last three. They were going through Mozilla Foxfire and Google. It's just like some people that just can't shorten anything down if they tried!

Good luck to you! The fabric is awesome.

I agree with quiltingcandy, I think I would make each the focus fabric in a different quilt. Or if you have a few that work together, then you could combine. Beautiful fabric!

Love 'em! The top pink fabrics with white circle has Arabic writing of a religious nature.
