I wish I had more control. I have tried and failed at this many times. My friend and I are always telling each other we need to stop buying fabric, but we head to the quilt store and buy more fabric. We have made a point of only buying what is on sale or we can use a coupon on. I would go for this if I thought I could do it. Like some of the others say: "I lost before I started". Good luck to you brave souls who are able to control this compulsion to buy fabric.

Does joining Buck A Block count as "buying fabric" I sure hope not because my LQS is starting on in Jan and those I do enjoy.

I haven’t purchased fabric in months. I even gave away part of my stash when I moved in July. I still have enough to last me at least through 11/11, so I am in. A good thing for our quilt shops that there are so many of you did not accept the challenge. :-P

Count me in. I spent enough at the Houston International Quilt Show along with my stash at home to last me a while.

Plus I'm getting cabinets made for my sewing room and I can't wait for that to be done and all in place so I can organize everything in that room and start sewing on projects.

Oh,does my block of the month count at buying fabric? I have only received two blocks and have 10 to go?

I'm not saying I'll buy none, because there might be a special quilt I want to make as a gift, but I'm cutting WAY back! Plus getting rid of stuff. It's becoming an emotional burden to have all this fabric and patterns.

What you can buy is this - items to finish an existing quilt project (either WIP or UFO):

* batting
* backing or binding fabric
* fabric (if nothing in your stash will work)
* thread or notions

Anyone else interested in joining me?
Interestingly, I have already started. A couple of months ago I was going through my stuff and decided not only did I have enough I probably have too much. So other than needles, thread and batting I have decided not to buy for a year. I will finish my UFO's and I will continue to make stash quilts. I probably have enough thread, needles and batting to last me a year anyway. No books either. I have no more room for stuff in my sewing room or on my book shelves. I will concentrate on using what I have. The only exception is that I belong to the Benertex sample club and that is about four charm packs a year, it is already paid for you see. This year I made 12 full size quilts to send to the longarmer, probably more than that in smaller quilts I did up myself, and enough aprons, dishtowels, hot pads and place mats to outfit three families...I know about the last bit as they sit in my Christmas boxes behind me. Still I have not made a discernible dent in the stash, nor cleared space on the shelves. So here is to using up what I have and clearing space on the shelves. I am in.

I'm doing it now. I want to thin my stash. I haven't been swayed yet.

One thought...are we going to have a special group to post support and achievements, do we need a name?
