Default favorite line/brand of rulers

My current favorite line of rulers is the Olfa brand because they are the easiest ones for me to read and they feel nice to handle.

I do wish they had a few more sizes avsilable.

I like the frosted Olfa rulers. I really don't have a favorite brand though. I don't use regular rulers much, I use a lot of specialty rulers or die cut my fabric.

I wish I had started with Creative Grid rulers... Easy to read and they have built-in non-slip dots that really hold the ruler in place.

My personal favorite is the Fiskars Donna Dewberry line - not readily available anymore though. Treasuring the ones I have!

I really like Creative Grids. I collected a lot of rulers I don't use anymore now that I've found Creative Grids.

Cheers, K

My absolute, hands-down FAVORITE ruler is my "Wrights EZ" ruler, 6-1/2x24. I love that ruler and use it so much I bought a second one. It's really easy to read and the size is super handy. I also have a handful of square rulers made by this brand, in various sizes. I buy them at Joann's.

I also like Creative Grids, and the frosted Olfa rulers. Oh, and my June Tailor strip cut rulers. I think my triangle ruler is Fons & Porter and I use that one a lot too. In general, I like rulers that are clear or lightly frosted, with thin black marks.

I do NOT like Omingrid/Omnigrip - all that yellow and green makes it really hard to see where my fabric edge is. I also don't like the "Cutting Edge" rulers that are supposed to sharpen your blade as you cut - I bought one and it DULLS my blade. BOO!

I started buy back decades ago Omnigrid and that is what I still have. I can't afford to buy a ruler that I already have. I like the Omingrip ruler for not sliding but the the backing does wear off.

My favorite rulers are the Olfa Frosted Advantage because they don't slip (really!), the lines are narrow, they're easy to see through on both light and dark fabrics, they come with many different angle lines (the 6"x24" one has 15º, 30º, 45º, 60º, and 90º in a full arc), and they're pure pleasure to use. I have the long one and two square ones (4½" and 9½"). A large square is on my wish list.

I also love my O'lipfa lip edge 5"x24" ruler, but I know a lot of people don't like them at all. I use it mostly when I want to cut strips fast. I also have dedicated 60º and 45º triangle rulers, but no other 'specialty' rulers.

I'm a charter member of the 'Hate Omnigrip/Omnigrid Club' because they're so blessed busy that accuracy is impossible. I was so eager to get rid of the nasty thing, I mailed it all the way across the country, free of charge, to someone who said they'd love to have it. It was either that or 'frisbee' it into the woods! Wonder if they still have it???

I feel that the Creative Grids rulers are very "busy" - and require serious concentration when I use them.

One of my very favorite small rulers is the Omnigrid 4x8 ruler that is gridded in 1/8 inch lines. I also like the Ominigrid 3x18 that is gridded in 1/8 inch lines.

I use the tiny rulers from Rhonda quite a bit, too.

When I was cutting I Spy squares, I had clear plexiglass cut into various sizes and then used 1/4 inch masking tape on the edges to "frame" the picture. Some hardware stores were better about doing that than others. I think the cutter of them was cussing at me when trying to cut some of the really small squares (1.25 inches, 1.50, 1.75, 2.00, 2.25).

If one uses a lot of a certain size that isn't commonly available - 7.5 inches, for example - I think it is worth it to get a piece of acrylic or plexiglass cut to that size - than I don't have to "think" when squaring up a unit or block. It's also a good idea to label the size on each square!
