Niether of my machines are fussy about thread.. I just use what is cost effective , gets the job done , and suits my fancy when I buy it.

My machines are not fussy. The only time I ever had a problem along that line was with C&C embroidery thread in my first Brother embroidery machine. It threw an ever loving fit about the 40wt embroidery thread but it loved the 70wt C&C bobbin thread. In fact, it is still the only bobbin thread I buy for embroidery. Lots on the spool and it is inexpensive, works for me.

I started out quilting with Mettler because that is what was sold in the shop. I did notice that all the machines we used in class had huge lint balls around the needles, but not knowing any different I kept using the Mettler and cleaning copious amounts of lint out of my machine. I heard about Aurifil and decided top try it. I have not looked back. I use the Mettler I have left for basting and button sewing.

I used CC for years when I was making garments, and Guterman for topstitching or embellishment, but CC makes too much lint when I'm piecing. I am an Aurifil convert even though it costs more. I love that a bobbin lasts so long and that it doesn't jam in the machine or break easily. I still use CC but only for basting by hand.

I use Coats and Clark and truly have had no issues...I have a few spools of the Gutterman and Robison-Anton thread but not enough to finish a project with so I haven't tried them yet..

If you have a shop you could set up a wholesale account for Aurifil.
Use it yourself and sell to your customers.

I have to say I have stayed away from coats for years had several issues with it years ago while garment sewing, I haven't bought it since, I now believe it was a bad spool but I guess I've gotten spoiled by my gutter an my hancocks only sold mettler and black and white gutter an, but when Joanns opened I bout the 30 pack of gutter an on sale - I only use aura fill for my piecing though just but it online from a cheap source....

Thread manufacturers all make so many different types of thread, I'd never blanketly refuse to use an entire brand even if I'd had trouble with one type. For example, the new Coats & Clark Star thread is wonderful yet I hate the Dual Duty lines.

Gutermann and Mettler are the standard threads that we can buy in my town.I have no problem with either of them.Aurifil can be purchased an hour and a half drive away. It is more expensive for the reel but there is twice as much thread on the reel as well. It is very nice to sew with Aurifil as well. The only threads I will not sew with are the really cheap ones that break all of the time. The one I liked the best was Tanne and I think it was a shame that they stopped manufacturing it.

My Janome likes all threads, even tho I was told, it would only like what ever I started with. I have used up all my old C&C on it & lots of different expensive brands. But now I am using Connecting Treads for piecing, I really like their thread, price and how much is on a spool. I have not noticed any more link. I notice more lint in some of the fabrics I use.

I have used Gutterman for a few years now and found it to be a good thread. I tried Aurafil the other and couldn't really tell much difference. I like the thread I bought from Connecting thread but hate the link. My machines only complain when I use different thread in the bobbin than on the top.
