Okay, after reading all these comments, I'm ready to give fleece a try.

kellyer21, thanks for asking the question regarding this!

I agree with all the comments so far -- this has been first time I used fleece as a backing and am so pleased -- the quilts are so soft and cozy -- my only concern is that fleece loses that softness with washing, but these are gifts, so....

I just hand tied a throw for a friend . She had used upholstery fabric for the top warm and wanted natural for bating and fleece for the backing. it is very heavy it was a bear to work with.

What a great idea! Now I have something else to try. Silly me never thought of this.

Well, this answered one of my questions about using fleece for backing. My grandson wants a quilt with fleece backing, but he also wants the batting. I have an idea that using the batting with the fleece might make it too difficult to quilt, but he wants it to be heavy.

Go to Walmart and buy their light weight fleece for batting. It'll be easier to handle and will add that extra layer for warmth.

Joann's is having a big sale on their fleece - by the yard or the entire bolt. Just bought some cream colored today. I have used it on laps, kids tagalong quilts and on wall hangings. Machine quilts well with a walking foot. Also not difficult to hand quilt with either. It's a real time and money saver for certain projects.

I just made one for my DD's MIL who stays cold all the time. I put Warm and Natural batting in it and fleece on the back. I think it's keeping her warm enough, finally!
