Default Fleece Instead of Batting?

Has anyone ever considered using fleece instead of batting for a quilt? I don’t mean flannel...I mean fleece.

I've used fleece for backing. I've used in both on flannel quilts & t-shirt quilts with no "extra" layer so just the top and the fleece back and it worked very well. Not sure why you would want to cover the fleece with a fabric...

I thought of using fleece instead of batting because I'm tired of spending hours and hours and plenty of money on fabric, batting and backing only to end up with a stiff quilt. I use Warm and White or Warm and Natural batting and I use the minimum amount of quilting that I can 'legally' get away with but the quilt is still somewhat stiff or not as soft as I'd like it. The backing fabric is soft and pliable, the quilt top is soft and pliable but add the batting and it changes everything.

I'd have to use too many layers of flannel in place of batting so I thought of fleece.

No need for batting if you back with fleece...these quilts are very warm.

I think she was thinking the other way around .... fleece for batting .... and still having a backing.

Yes ... I have done it.
Once together, it is just like a normal batting.

You can use whatever you want for a batting ... if that is what you like.
The best way to find out is to try it ... and see how you like it!

I have used flannelette as a batting too.

If you use just the fleece, it is a very soft quilt. That's why it works particularly well with t-shirt quilts since they are pretty stiff due to the stabilizer on the t-shirts.

I use fleece (with no batting) on the backs of my quilts all the time. I just make sure to load them on the long arm with the stretchy going up and down not across, the quilting is open patterns to keep everything soft and drapeable.
