I'm with FelineFanatic ... to me, when I hear meander I think bigger and more open, and that stipple is much more dense and close, but the same "scribbling" on the fabric. When I do it really really close, I call it "micro-stippling". But that's just me!

Kind of like .... toe-mae-to .... or toe-mah-to ????

Does it really matter? ..... just do what one likes for the effect they want.

I use the terms interchangeably.

Stippling is a tight form of a meander. They are basically the same non-crossing movement with different scale.

Stippling is small and tight, no crossing lines. Meandering looks like jigsaw puzzle pieces, larger than stippling and can be quite large spacing - 3" apart. Again, no crossing lines.

This is what I thought but now I'm reading you can cross in meandering and doing loops, etc. Another thing that doesn't need quilting police--do whatever feels good to you.

My kind of thinking. Do whatever feels right for you.

It really doesn't matter what you call it or how you do it. Do what suits you and your capabilities. No need to conform to anyone's rules and ideas, especially when there are so many different ideas.

I agree with Tartan. I don't worry about crossing lines..and sometimes if I want something really small as a filler, I scribble. If someone can see the cross over, they have better eyes than I do. I have never had anyone even see any cross overs.
