Thanks for the info. Sounds like we have same machine. I did however end up getting a new machine for my birthday. Nothing fancy. It's a singer with a few more features. Nothing computerized or anything but it is much quieter and I really love it. If ever I need to use my kenmore again I will keep your tips in mind.
