So, when you're shopping with friends, do you give an honest opinion when they ask you what you think about it? Or do you just say "Oh, that's lovely." and move on with pawing through the bolts?
I try to not say if I don't like it. They are choosing fabrics for themselves not for me. I will say if I don't think a selection of fabrics work together, though.

Like I said, I tell them how I feel if they ask. Most don't anymore. My dd is just like me. I held up an outfit one day and asked if she liked it. She said, "For who?" When I answered, "For me.", she said, "It's just my opinion but that really doesn't look good with gray hair and wrinkles." Talk about honesty!!!

After all these years, if they ask for my opinion, my friends know they did ask and here comes the answer. I think I'm more tackful in my older years. I don't sugar coat but I do try to be a nicer honest about it.

Yep, that's the way I feel. I usually shop alone so I don't have anyone tell me if it's ugly. One of my students told me I use fabric she wouldn't dream of and them is suprised at how much she likes the quilt.

I agree with redrummy. That's exactly what I have done.

I bought a half yard of the ugliest fabric, black background with HUGE wild colorful flowers, put small pieces into my quilt and it was beautiful.
