I started quilting many years ago and for a while was very actively competing, blogging, and generally really involved in all aspects of quilting.

A few years ago my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I found myself having to give up a lot of stuff in order to be available for my parents. I didn't mind and would do it again in a heartbeat, but now that he's passed away, (last November), and my mom seems to be doing well and doesn't need me as much as she did, I'm trying to get back into quilting.

I'm fortunate because I have a stash of great fabric, a patient husband who doesn't mind me spending money on materials, and a son who's a senior in high school and pretty much takes care of himself. So, here I am, I have the time and the materials, but I'm having a hard time getting going again.

Does anyone out there have any advice for me? I really want to get my quilting mojo back!
So sorry about your Dad. It sounds like you are a good daughter and you'll never regret spending time with your parents, especially when one of them is ill. My advice would be to start planning a special quilt for your son's high school graduation...maybe a tee-shirt quilt. He's probably got plenty of tee shirts he could donate "to the cause." I find I am more inspired when I am making a quilt for a family member or friend. Good luck to ya and love your name...From one Susan to another :-0)

Welcome to the Board. We are starting a new Quilt Along using a new book by Laurie Hird. You might be interested in joining us. We will be sewing two blocks small blocks a week. A group of us here on the board have made quilts of Laurie's two other books. Here is the link to the thread:

Sorry for the loss of your father but am glad that you were there when he needed you the most. And you helped your mom so much too. If you don't have a baby quilt to make can you make a quilt for the local Alzheimer's center? Would that make you feel good to do that in honour of your father? What about making some of them mug mats? Welcome back to the quilting world and we'll be looking forward to see your work.

I am lost also. I was just learning and coming here and reading a lot. My husband past away on the 2nd of July and I turned 70 on the 3rd. I now want to get back with my group and come here and read but can't seem to get started back doing anything until I finally made my way back here today.

I am so sorry that you lost your husband so recently. How hard. I hope that you can find some relief soon. Don't rush yourself though....just take it at your own rate. You may want to start your own thread, as too often quilters just read the first few messages and then jump to the end to add their comment.

I am glad you are starting back with us today though. This is a good place to start.
