I love to go online (so many websites we quilters use) and buy little notions for friends. My last couple of things were: a little magnetized suction cup thing that suctions right to your machine and holds a small pair of scissors (does not bother computerized machines so can be used by anyone), and a small battery operated light that hooks onto the machine with velcro. These were both perfect for a friend who runs Project Linus workshops and is always carting her machine off to who knows where. She now always has the light she needs in the right spot and a place to hold her scissors. I love these notions myself so I knew she would love them too. There are all sorts of little notions out there that won't break the bank but make great thank you gifts, or birthday gifts etc.

How about home made cookies, candy, or a fancy loaf of bread?

I always like homemade gifts the best, no matter how small or inexpensive.

This was what I thought of, too. She may appreciate you making her a quilt top. If she had quilted the other one for you, then I'd suggest a top roughly the same size as a gift. Then she can quilt and keep it.

If she is financially comfortable enough to the point where she can buy herself treats often then I would think something handmade would be a great option and very appropriate considering you have that common "crafty" bond.

If she is someone who is likely on a tighter budget and can't usually splurge on something just for herself, then I would think a gift certificate would be the way to go since it would be like two gifts in one; the fun of buying something "frivolous" and then of course whatever it is she buys.
