I too really like the Legacy muslin at JoAnn's. Its worth stocking up when you have a coupon or a good sale.

I use Roc-lon Ava-Lon 200 count muslin 100%cotton, permanent press, preshrunk. It is very nice.

Could you finish hand quilting it and then put on a "false" back on the quilt before you bind it? Then do some tacking or enough quilting to hold the back on securely without making the quilting on the front look odd. It would then be 4 layers but it shouldn't be noticeable. It would be better than losing all that hard work and money.

The muslin's on the front, actually -- it's a simple red & white nine patch, with the muslin being the white. It's formed a lot of tiny little pills that make it look grubby and dirty. I'm thinking about cutting it in two for cat quilts (finished by machine!) Very creative idea, though, ragquilter.
