I have always used Gutermann in my older Pfaff, the cheap thread never worked well in it.

I am currently using Gutermann for making yo-yo's for a quilt and even with beeswax find it very frustrating when it breaks when knotting off. Which seems to be about every 4 yo-yo's or less.

I have noticed when I use Guttermann thread, the thread kind of jumps off the spool like it is getting caught on something. I think it might have something to do the spools being smaller than the reg. spools of thread. Could this be?

I have a Viking Designer 1, I was told to use Guttermann thread , NEVER to use Coats & Clarks! Have not had any problems with the Guttermann..I see others agree with me too.

I use Gutterman polyester for everything! Both of my Bernina's like it as well as my Juki and my little Brother. I very rarely have my thread break. In fact I love it so much, my DH bought me a 100 spool assortment at Joanns for Christmas last year.

I bought hand quilting thread - it was unevenly processed - some lengths very thick, some very, very thin. Will never buy it again.

Oh I am so glad you mentioned this as I have the same machine and every once in awhile the thread gets caught up. I thought it was my machine or I might be doing something wrong. Thanks for the info. I'll change threads.

Also I want to add that when I used Guttermann metalic looking thread it started shredding the getting caught up in the feed dogs. Too bad as the thread looked so pretty.

Does anyone know if all metalic's have this problem?

In my opinion, I have found that sometimes sales people will say anything to get you to buy 'their stuff' Guttermann is a great middle to top thread range in price and quality, I have used it for over 30 years of sewing and in all that time I have had no problems what so ever, I even use their 100% cotton quilting thread to hand quilt my bed quilts with, I have never needed to change to anything else. Just my opinion.
