I got a light from Nancy's Notions last week that hangs around your neck. I'm using that for knitting and could easily use it for hand quilting too. It was very reasonable - something like $3 + on sale. You can move the LEDs too, kind of like shift them.
I would suggest that the quilter look into something like that. There's another kind advertised in the Keepsake Quilting catalog that has a similar setup.

Yep! It does sound like a great idea, but I can see it wacking someone in the head as they spin it around. I am thinking it would have to be a low profile lamp that mounts to the adjustment block on the hoop. Maybe a bendable one that can be adjusted lower. Hmmmm.

I bought two more last week. So I wouldn't have to be moving one all the time and one to keep in my car trunk for sewdays.

I googled these and they look really nice. Do you have the one with the magnifying glass?

I found something like this at Costco recently. It is a bendable "stick" that can wrap around your neck. There is a light on each end of the stick and you can adjust where it's pointing. I use it for sewing, reading in bed, and my husband uses it for working under our cars and when shoveling the kids treehouse in the dark! All around useful. :D

I use an OTT light (floor lamp) for all my hand sewing and quilting. I think one that goes on the hoop might be difficult unless you attach it to the base or as you suggested the adjustable nob.

Yes they are magnifying. They have a heavy base so they don't fall over and a gooseneck so I can put the light anywhere I need it. Someone posted her lamp was flimsy and she couldn't pick it up to move it and it was top heavy. Mine is not like that at all. The needlework shop where I bought the lamps sells them already put together so I was able to try one out before buying. I can sit comfortably and have the lamp right over my sewing. I use when I do machine quilting. I can see every stitch. One bonus is that it can run off batteries or electric power.

Wanted to add the frames made by Harry Barnett are excellent quality.

So my question is do you use one while hand quilting and what type is it? If you can post pictures, I would love to see them.

    Thank you,

Just finished with attending Quilting in the Desert here in Phoenix. Marylou McDonald, who documents Baltimore Album Quilts, taught some hand applique. Her webiste is www.baltimorequiltlady.com She had bought some reading glasses with lights switches in the temples. I tried them on and they were great. They lit up the area beautifully and were not bulky. You can find them at Walgreen's or CVS pharmacies.

I use a large floor frame & I have to attatch a swing arm light to my book shelf, but it is not very suitable for that & I don't want to make marks trying to tighten it up.
I am looking for a light I can attatch to the frame that I can move from one end to the other. I did try a clip on one, but the clip would not hold.
