Default Hand sewing

Taking a cross country trip from Ohio to Utah for a wedding. We will be gone for two weeks. I'd like to work on a quilt project while in the car. Has anyone combined hand sewing and
machine sewing on the same quilt? Thanks for your help!

Yes, I have done that. In the car, I did some hand quilting then later finished by machine (DSM). I prefer to applique in the car, takes less space on my lap. I have also knit while riding in a car. Don't forget to enjoy the road trip too and the sights you'll be seeing.

sure....tons of times...all the time....i am always working on hand projects- my 'Hex' project, grandmother's flower gardens, tumbling blocks, cathedral windows, wool applique.... the list goes on & on...then the project reaches the point where the hand work is done & i put it all together with the machine...
my wool 'Backyard Gathering' quilt is all wool hand appliqued blocks/borders- machine pieced & quilted
a majority of my quilts contain hand work along with machine parts.
created this basket of flowers one weekend while laying on the couch with a cracked ankle up on pillows, watching Bond movies- then machine quilted & bound it when i could use my foot again.

I made the quilt Eldon by Edyta Sitar (sp) I pieced the log cabins by machine, and the strips for the center of the stars on my machine, but the rest of the quilt top was completely done by hand, then I sewed the borders on by machine. I have several 12 in. block patterns that have anywhere from 30 to 80 pieces in them, I always do them by hand. But I love hand work, to me it is so relaxing.
