I sew all my bindings on using the machine, esp. children's quilts. It's much sturdier & faster too.

I sew all of my binding on with the machine usually use a zigzag.

The fastest and easiest binding I use for childrens quilts is by cutting the backing larger and folding it over to the front for the binding. Cut it large enough to double fold it to the front. There is a tute here on how to do it.
