i did not have the fraying issue with the same jelly roll and fat quarters I bought at Joann's. as far as fabric quality, it definately isn't "Moda or any other LQS" quality but it certainly isn't the worst fabric that I have purchased. The weave tightens up after washing.

Ok, it's all pieced and hopefully tomorrow I will get it sandwiched, quilted and the binding put on. It turned out nicer than I expected. Changed just a little because I didn't like the dark brown in the quilt...took away from the baby sort of look.

In response to a couple posts, I really didn't mean to sound snobbish about using cotton blends....it's just that I have never made a baby quilt and I didn't know if quilters generally used blends.....I am still a relatively new quilter....and learning thanks to this board. Oh, and I am definitely not against buying fabric from Walmart.....my closest means to buying fabric.

Thanks to everyone for all the help.

I will do that.....let you know what I think. I really already like it but I'm anxious to get it finished and wash it and see what it looks like. I have never used a flannel backing and I know that I've read so many times about how much it shrinks.....but these instructions say NOT to prewash. So we'll see. Like everyone says.....someone will have a use for it and appreciate it.

I say make IT. there are many place the a quilt that is not as soft as we would like can be used. a play mat on the floor,in the yard, over the car seat, it the ball game where you need something but not a soft quilt that can get some thing on it.

I looked up the exact kit online. It is 100% cotton. Sounds like there is a ton of sizing in it. Washing the fabric will certainly help.

Finish it......I can guarantee you that most Mom's are NOT buy 100% cotton items anymore....too expensive. If it's quilted, it will hold up and be darling. Have fun with the new grandbaby.....

I would make it and give it for it's intended purpose. It's cute. Some of my quilts are 40 years old and are blends. They are still holding up.
