    Default Hawaiian Quilt

Hi all - am looking for some advice from you quilters. My daughter was recently in Hawaii and got a pack of 5" fabrics in mostly blue prints and several of a white fabric with pineapples on (which stands for Welcome). It is about a 3" pack of 3/4 of the pack being different blues which go well together and 1/4 of the pack being the white background with the pineapples.
What would you make out of it? She wants it for herself as a remembrance of being in Hawaii. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

First thing I think of is Falling Charms quilt, quick easy and makes a beautiful quilt.

Historically, traditional Hawaiian quilts are large-scale (wholecloth, really) applique, usually depicting symmetrical botanical designs, then echo-quilted. If you google an image search, you will find tons of gorgeous examples. Since it would be impossible to make a large-scale applique out of charm squares, I'm imagining a pieced background of these squares, with maybe a large pineapple repeat appliqued on top. It could be a throw or a wall-hanging, it doesn't have to be super huge.
    A couple of ideas:

Here's one that is a little more complicated and 2-color:

If you're not an applique person, there are many patterns for pieced pineapples, turtles, palm trees, pikake flowers, etc.

Can you post a picture. And how many of each blue and white?

I wish I could, but I am unable to post pictures. I used to be able to but since it was changed a while back, I am not able to do so.

thank you for including the link. This is such a great way to put a quilt together with lots of different charms and it is so effective at showcasing the fabric.

How about a cute tote bag or purse? She'd be reminded of her trip every time she used it and it would certainly start a conversation.

Hoping this link to Dunster's recent post works correctly - Chandelier Quilts - she made two fabulous chandelier quilts using Hawaiian fabrics and they turned out sharp!

I wonder if something like this would work?

It is told about at https://charleydeeandme.blogspot.com...an-quilts.html I couldn't find a pattern, but it looks like the squares are sashed on two sides and then twisted in different directions.

Maybe some other ideas at https://lisaboyer.com/lindex.html
