I'm 5'6" and my table is 39" high. The ergonomics experts don't approve, but it's the most comfortable height for me. I ended up with the folding work table from JoAnn's and a set of bed risers. There are simple solutions if they're really interested in the best interests of their employees. If...

Years ago I bought a cutting table from a fabric store that went out of business. It is 36 inches high and I am 5'4''. It is perfect for me. It sat in the garage for years and when we finished my sewing room, we got it out of the garage and set it up in my NEW spacious (36 X20 feet) sewing room. I am so grateful that I can finally use the table and have everything in the same room. Instead of running to the kitchen table to cut and lay stuff out, I now have that table (kitchen), cutting table, four sewing machines, and my New Joy quilting frame in the same space. Please rejoice with me!

I am 5'6" tall and have some back issues, so with that said, I like my table taller than average. I use a tall stool if I need to sit for long or most of the time while cutting just stand. But, I have a wonderful cutting table that is on folding legs. I went to the local hardware store and bought PVC pipe large enough to accommodate the legs of the table (3"wide), added an end fitting to reinforce the edges next to where the table leg inserts, and cut them in different lengths according to different uses. Now, all I have to do is raise the table slightly, leg by leg, slide the extenders onto the legs until I have all four height adjusters in place and the table magically rises to the desired height. You can easily make these without much effort and some stores will even do the cutting of the pipe for you if you know ahead what lengths you need. It is inexpensive and I don't have to buy another table.

Be aware that any injury/health problem that results from an accident at work or a work related injury can make you eligible for Worker's Compensation benefits. Maybe knowing that will convince your manager to think harder about changing the situation!

Mine is alsoa fording banquet table on bed risers and another one right next to it regular height to sew on. Works wonders for me as I am 5'3. Very stable too. Here I thought I invented the bed risers for my cutting table. Guess not!
