I've seen a rubber cushion (looks like a big whoopie cushion) that you sit on and it's supposed to keep you from getting tired just sitting in one place. The lady at one of my LQS swears by it. Also, you might have something wrong - maybe see a chiropractor??? Worked for me. Hope you find a solution.

I have had back and neck pain for a LONG time. That's why I wanted the lightweight machine to take to class. I went to my family doctor. He gave me a script for physical therapy and also told me to use COLD packs.

Like many people here I suffer from backache too. I would say better posture, relaxing shoulders (easier said than done), and taking breaks (I set a timer and it helps).
    Good luck.

I also sew with door wedges at the back of my machine so it tips forward - it makes a big diference - try it!

I have found out that if you sit with your feet flat on the floor, chair not to tall or short, your posture is better & less back aches.

Check your table height, and be sure that your body is lined up with the needle of your machine, and take frequent breaks

I have got quite severe backache, somewhere between the shoulder blades. There are parts where the muscles seems very hard and tense. Been to a couple of great massages :D but on the long run, it'll come back again.
The other day I sat at my machine and done a little quilting and there it was again, severe again :x so I'm assuming it could come from the way I sit at my sewing machine or even maybe the computer.
Has anyone got any suggestions what to do to help this problem??? Would be very thankful for any ideas.
I love quilting and I always pray the Lord will keep my eyes fit enough, my hands and my back too, so there must be a solution!!!
Thanks for your replies and God bless you all!!!

I don't know if someone else has given you this tip, but if you are a bit "top heavy" - - as in bigger than a C cup in the breast area? Check your bra support.
I could tell you a big long story about working at a clothing factory and finding out that thick bra straps are needed for persons who are working with sewing machines, but I wouldn't want to bore you. Suffice it to say - - table height, chair height, back support all goes into it, but lack of bra support can cause a bunch of back problems, too.
Make yourself get up and move around every 45 minutes or so <wave>

My mom cut wood after she was retired. She gets in a hot shower and stretches her back under the water. She swears by it.
