I have 208 HST to make. Somewhere I read about marking the sewing machine and follow this line rather than marking each fabric square. Now I can't find this info.
Can anyone help?

I do mine the easy way. Cut squares an inch or so larger than needed. Put two fabrics face to face and sew all around them.

Cut from right side top to left side bottom.
Or from left side top to right side bottom.
Open and press.
Cut down to whatever size you need.

I'd rather waste a little fabric than take the time to do it
"the right way". It frustrates the living $%$^^ out of me
doing it the piddling slow but perfect way. I'm with Flylady,
that oh-so elusive "P" word is not allowed in my house.

You can also just press 104 squares instead of marking. Fold corner to corner and press. Then sew 1/4" on either side of pressing line. Goes very quickly. I'll be interested in the machine marking as well.

If you go to www.blockcentral.com you can print out pages to use to make 1, 2, 3, and 4 in. HST. Each make 8 or more. You just sew on the lines then cut. That is if the size you need is included.

Here's a tutorial from oma66 with pics similar to Ramona's instructions...

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-74134-1.htm

This looks so easy even I could do it...you get 4 6 1/2 in hsts from 2 9 1/2 in squares. If I weren't math challenged I could figure other sizes!!

If you use 2 4 1/4 in squares. You end up with 4 2 1/2 in hsts with some trimming, but I'd rather trim than come up short. And I agreed with you, if I liked math more I could figure out more sizes. Unfortunately, I won't tell you how long it took me to figure this one out.

I had seen the info you are talking about & they used masking tape to mark the machine & guided the points of the squares along the tape. I can't find it either but it seems like you would mark your machine with tape 1/4" away from your needle position & guide the points your squares along the tape line. So your points would be guided along the lines & your stitching would be 1/4" away from the points on either side. I hope that made sense!
