Default Help with King size quilt layout

I'm wanting to make a king size quilt using 8 packs of charm squares that have 42 in each pack. I want to put sashing between each square, either 1" or 2". I can't seem to get this figured out. Do I have enough packs or will I need more? How many across and down. I like my quilts to hang down the sides without having huge borders. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

What size did you want the quilt to be?? There are various mattress thickness so you have to take that into account. Are you going to put any borders on this quilt??? I and others can draw you up the quilt on EQ but we need more information. If you are using 1" finished sashing each blocks will be 5.5" in finished side (including sashing on two sides), with 2" finished sashing, the blocks will be 6.5". Hope that helps.

if you want king sized, you will have to use 2" sashing, for sure. your layout: 16x21 charms will give you a 104x136.5" top before borders. if you use 17x20 charms, you will have 110.5x130" before borders BUT you will be short one charm square, so will have to find one other square to go with it. HTH

Thanks to both of you for helping me I will be putting a boarder on probably no more then 4". I also like to do a skinny inside boarder of 1". The drop would be roughly 18".

Thanks again

An 18" drop on all 4 sides would be 114x116, for a standard sized king. (I'm getting my new king bed delivered Friday, so am focusing on these same calculations.) I would do 17x 18 with 2" finished sashing with your 4" border. That would leave 30 charms for matching pillow shams.
