Help Me Decide On Borders
#24
Use the red . It will frame the quilt and add a punch of color. The green is too pale for this top! Love it! A narrow(1-2" border of a dark color like black) and then the red border would look Fab', but it has to be narrow. I would do a 1'black first!

Thank you one and all for your suggestions. They are a big help! It helps me understand why something does or does not work. Which is what I need as a newbie! LOL
I am beginning to see where the green is maybe a little to light for this quilt. It definately does not do a thing for it as a first border. Some of you have suggested a small inner border in a dark color; black or green but the quilt top has dark brown in it would that be a better choice? I am using the red in it for sure. If I do a dark 1 inch border first and then the red, what size should the red be?
Thanks again!!

Dark brown would be great. I was writing from the reply so I couldn't see the quilt to chose a color for the stopper strip. If you need to purchase it, look for a red based brown rather than a grayish based one. I cut mine 1 1/4" so they finish at 3/4". 1 1/2" finishing at 1" would be fine, too. I cut my wide border 5 1/2" for my big lap robes which are about 65 by 75. I think the purple one I just finished was only 5". Put "For Purple Lovers" in the search box if you want to see those dimensions. In looking at it, I see the wide border should have been cut 5 1/2". AH, well, what's done is done.

Thank You Irishrose.
I was not sure if one could tell from the picture if it was black or brown and wanted to know if it would matter either way. A newbie can never be too sure. LOL I will have to purchase the brown so thanks on the tip of making sure it is a red brown. Your Purple Lovers Quilt is beautiful by the way!!

This is only my third quilt since I decided to start quilting, so I am a beginner, too. Just a beginner who loves color. Be sure to show us the finished quilt. A D9P was my first and it was fun.
I have years of apparel sewing experience, but did only two simple quilts in all those years.
