Default Help with new Janome Horizon

I am the fortunate person to get a great deal (I think) on a Horizon on Craig s list that was posted here. I have watched video, read the book, ordered a bobbin case (missing) ready to go. I have been looking at the presser foot ever since I got it and wondered why it did not go all the way down to the needle plate. I thought well maybe when it engages with fabric it will. Well it did not. I know it has 2 levels the feed dogs are up the foot is on I have no error messages the machine even runs but the foot is not touching anything so everything sits. I stopped the video and looked real close to that part of machine and don't think I am missing anything. The only thing is I am not familiar with the even feed foot. Does that have to be engaged with the presser foot or something even if you are not using it. I can take it to local dealer but don't want to look too ignorant even though I could be.

Check your manual but I think you need to take the presser foot up to the highest position and pull down from the back the top feed dogs. They fit right into the even feed foot.

If you are talking about the walking foot it will not move the fabric unless the even feed foot is engaged

On my Bernina I can raise my foot.I accidentally raised it and couldn't get it to come back down for a few days. I tried everything. Then all of a sudden it was down and working again. I need to take it in and have the dealer check it out. I did something to it to make it rise and I'm afraid it will happen again. Don't feel stupid because you don't understand what is wrong with your machine. You aren't the expert in fixing machines. You are the quilter!!

Is the foot pressure knob adjusted correctly? It's on the left top. Turn it to the right and see if that helps or if the indicator even moves in the clear area on the front left of the machine. If not, please come join the Yahoo group I'm in for owners of the Janome 6500 and 6600. There are lots of very knowledgeable and friendly people there. Good luck!

Thank everyone. I did read the manual and watched DVD however it was one of those ha ah moments. When I took it to the shop the first thing the guy said did you get this adapter for the foot with the machine? NO it was missing so I used one off my other one. Guess what the one made for that is much longer. All I would have to have done was put on one that did not just use the slip on slip off button and it worked. He still has it as he wanted t check things out but he also told me it did not need to be cleaned and oiled that it still had lubricant and it was as clean as a whistle. So he was honest too. So glad it was not a lot of money.
