One thing I would consider is what would happen if your DGS chews on the painted parts of the quilt? You don't mention if he is still a baby or toddler or what. Having it on clothes is one thing but on a quilt, it is too easy to put their mouth if he is still a baby. I don't know enough about it to know if it is non toxic. Why not just do fusible applique letters and blanket stitch or satin stitch around them?

my DGS is 7 yrs old. The quilt is already made. I really appreciate all your wonderful comments. I knew I would get my answer here. I should have done the letters when I did the applique dinosaur but didn't. I think its too late now. Maybe on the next one. Once again, Thanks.

What about button letters? I have seen buttons in letters of the alphabet at Joannes.

The handmade items I was given that had puffy paint on them .... well, it is easy to pick off the puffy paint. Those with just plain old fabric or acryllic paints did great though.
