How about a girly, 2 sided quilt? One one side Australian animals on a big map that shows where you live, and on the other side a big map of Alaska with some animals on it from there and of course where she lives. You could say on your side From Grandma's house to (other side)[granddaughter's name]house with love.

That is a brilliant idea thank you. I will be making the quilt to take to Alaska with me when we visit July next year.

I say Aussie all the way! You have such cool animals-I'd definitely go heavy on the critters :) My just turned four year old would definitely prefer critters over girly!

What kind of things does she like? She might find animals from either Aussie or Alaskan fun to look at and keep her warm this winter. I'm sure she'll really like anything you make for her but kids love animals so much. Good Luck. Sue
