    Default Help please marking wheel

    Hi Everyone,

Can anybody tell me where I can get one of these (picture below). It is a marking wheel for quilts etc. A friend was gifted this one which was purchased in Japan. Can’t find it here in the UK. I can find the plastic handled ones... just really fancy a lovely wooden one.

This has been around for years and is used in garment making with special tracing/carbon paper to mark seams, etc. You can get them any place notions are sold. They are called tracing wheels.

I would think it would work like a Hera marker? A Hera marker leaves an indent mark on a quilt sandwich when run along the top but it must be on a firm surface like a table. I would check Google for Clover products.

most tracing wheels are spiked, I assume you want a smooth wheel, and that is a lot harder to find. However doing a search on smooth tracing wheels did turn up several results.

I've found some nice wooden ones listed for leather craft and jewelry making.

On ebay there are two different versions of the Clover Bamboo tracing wheel. Neither are flat edge, but one is a blunt edge that may work for you.

Dakota Rose is correct - they are called tracing wheels and were/are used in pattern making and garment construction with some sort of transfer paper. They come three different ways - Serrated (has spikes and gives a series of little dots) and two types called Blunt (one that looks scalloped - which I assume gives you little dashes and the other a solid disk like your friends).

I looked at Amazon UK this morning and they clearly have a blunt one from clover as well as another by Prym called Smooth.

There is always Ebay as well. Should not be difficult to find one that works for you.

I can see why you would want that one - it is a beautiful tool - I see other wooden ones on Amazon, but not that particular one. maybe send an email to Clover and ask them if they are available somewhere.

This looks like the one you're looking for but it's not in the UK.
