    Default Starting Point???

I joined QB just about a month ago as a new newbie (new to sewing as well). I started with rag quilts about 3 months ago and thought I'd be happy to stick with those forever. Now that I've been reading so much on here (and enjoying every minute of it), I realize I'd like to branch out and try a VERY simple quilt. Problem is that I'm not familiar with much of the lingo yet and don't have a clue where to begin to find something that I'll be able to start, complete AND enjoy. Would appreciate any guidance I receive. You guys are the best!

I would go to the Missouri Star Quilt Co. and look at the videos for a simple table runner pattern. Jenny has easy directions to get you started. After a table runner or placemats, move up to one of her simple quilt patterns. If possible a beginner quilt class at your local quilt shop helps give you the basics but really you can learn just about anything on YouTube now.

You could start right here. There are LOTS of tutorials for beginners in the tutorial section such as these:
    http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...l-t6460-2.html

    http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...ded-t7358.html

    http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...les-t8342.html

    http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...s-t180442.html

The more your search and read this board the more you will learn.
Google is also an excellent tool.
Learn the basics such as a four patch, a nine patch, half square triangle,
quarter square triangle and flying geese.
You can check quilterscache.com for all kinds of free quilt blocks.
They are classified in alphabetical order, size and difficulty.

    Have fun!

I also love the craftsy web site. The BOM classes are free and I learned so much.
