I see a quilt, pattern, picture, whatever strikes me. Then I think how I can change it, adapt it, add to it and who I want to give it to. Then I go through my stash and pull the fabrics I had in mind and dive in. I my have to buy something to reach my vision. I sketch, or make pattern pieces, and start. I rarely use an actual pattern. I just wing it, and am happy when my plan comes together.
