Cooking, Cleaning? I'm sorry, those words are no longer in my vocabulary! I would have all the time in the world to sew if only I could stay off this board! (Retired)

When I worked full-time I got up at 5:30 and sewed for an hour before I left for work. I was always too tired in the evenings and felt like I should spend time with family then. No one else was up that early with me so I could get a lot done in the quiet alone time. I learned to make time for the things I love; it's the only way to keep happy and sane (most of the time).

I've known ladies who work full time who do like janRN.
You could also cut things out on a Saturday or Sunday and have the blocks ready to go for when you get off work and perhaps do only one block if that is all the time you have.
I'm in charge of charity quilts for our guild. I cut out blocks when I'm visiting my mom (250 miles away so I visit a week or two at a time) I do it while she is napping.
A lot of our members work full time so they pick up the bags of 2 -4 blocks that have directions included and then they bring them back when they are done. When I have enough blocks for a quilt those go in a bag for someone else to make a top. That comes back and I add backing, batting and binding and the next person completes it. Sometimes another person adds the binding. It is all little steps to completion.
Perhaps you could apply some of that for your own projects.

Work part time at 'regular' job, work my own longarm quilting service company, and make time to quilt inbetween.

Even though I longarm quilt for part of my living, I still need that time to quilt for myself. I find if I go three days without some aspect of quilting I get feeling down. It's a type of therapy for me - keeps me sane!

I tend to make smaller wall hangings and other items as they go quicker and are 'finished' with a sense of accomplishment. But have several larger quilts I want to make this year.

I also have a DH who helps with the household chores, and all the kids are grown and live on their own.

I am always in the kitchen or laundry room so it seems! I put my foot down yesterday to so many people visiting, ds friends, and told them once a week. I want my life back and that doesn't include having 2 extra people here!

I am determined to get back into my sewing room this week! I need my therapy! I am OCD and like to do housework before sewing, but I used to be able to balance it out and I can again.

I need my therapy! LOL

Well, my philosophy has always been, If you want to do it bad enough you will FIND the time. Back when I was "younger" and working full time, with teenage sons & a husband getting in the way, I came home and sewed window treatments for other people, in addition to making a couple wedding gowns. It was my "therapy" after dealing with dental patients all day. Now I am retired, no husband and no one else around but the dogs and seem to have less time to sew. I think it is because I don't have any time constraints. I waste a lot of time.....

Just curious what you did in the dental office, I have worked in the dental field for over 20 years. front desk and assisiting when needed...I dont miss all the cranky people you had to deal with daily either.

I worked for 2 different dentists over a period of about 17 years. One I was the office manager, dental assistant; did everything in the office as the only employee, even did the taxes. The other dentist I was mostly the assistant, but helped at the front desk evenings and Saturdays when the regular girl didn't work. I used to have to hold hands, teach children how to brush their teeth, and cajol scared people. I really don't miss it a bit. And dealing with insurance companies was the pits.

Oh, are you supposed to DO housework? Ok just kidding, but if you just do a quick once over and a fairly good clean once a week, its good. Dishes go in the dish washer immediately after use, floors get a quick sweep and a quick wipe -same for counter, table and sink, bathroom a quick wipe and its off to the sewing machine.
I will admit that housework is not #1. My motto is "My house is clean enough to be healthy, but dirty enough to be happy." Its worked around here for 45 years. Hubby always says if someone comes to inspect the house, they can go home. Gotta love that man.
