I organize by color mostly, but also separate batiks, holiday, novelty and flannel. All are folded and stored in plastic drawers...yardage and fat quarters together.

I love your solution. What is "folding by the ruler method"?

Color - except I have Christmas fabric separated from the rest. And I have a bunch of florals leftover from 'watercolor' days that don't fit into any particular color family.

I'm in the process of wrapping fabrics around 7-1/2X20 foam core so I can store them upright instead of stacked on top of each other. And I'm folding FQs and FHYs & putting them in plastic food containers turned sideways on shelves so the tops of the folds show. I can hear someone saying 'Where's the picture?' - maybe tomorrow. My camera is upstairs, I'm downstairs, and I'm too lazy to get it right now.

Takes a lot of time - but it's worth it. Easier to take what I want off the shelf and put it back. Thanks to all of you who did it first!

I also store my fabric by color and they are in every kind of container there is at the moment. I am still trying to finish re-arranging the sewing room. but it is still going to be a while before I am finished.

Organizing anything in a motorhome is really hard. Every time you bring in something new, everything has to shift to make room. Presently my stash is in every nook & cranny in various bags. The bulk of it is around/under my recliner as I've been working with it continuously for Christmas gifts. It's all in bags, but I need to make fewer of them to make room for more! (grinning widely)
