How do you see down a Dresden?
#31
I applique --- a customer of mine sews 1/4" from the edge of the plates -- to sew them down. If you're having a longarmer quilt it for you, find out what they want. My customer couldn't get any quilter to quilt because it had "floppy edges --- afraid the hopping foot on the machine would get caught under it.

I've only made one, but I pinned the Dresden to the backing fabric, one pin in each blade. Since I did the one where the top is pointy and finished I just did a top stitch around each blade about 1/8" on the inside of each petal. I then used Wonder Under for the circle and a blanket stitch to attach it. Might be hard to see, but here's a photo.

There is a zigzag with a little jump and long bit other way if you use this after practise with monofilament or same or contrast thread little jump onto long one off plate. This will hold but think of it as applique and use any method. .good luck

I'm working on one now. I used Elmer's school glue to glue the "plate" onto the background, then ironed it to dry the glue. Then I used a hem stitch on my machine to permanently attach the two together. Haven't put any centers on yet but I'm thinking about using yoyos. It's working beautifully so far.

Wonder Under a/k/a double sided fusible webbing. Fold the block in quarters to get the center point. Fold the dresden plate in quarters to get the center point. Put a pin through the dresden plate, then the block and iron.
Perfectly centered and perfectly adhered to the block. Then you can do whatever you want with the edge, whether it's hand applique or decorative stitching with your sewing machine around the edge.
