I do. I love picking out the pattern and the fabric. I don't necessarily enjoy doing the math but love peicing. I usually do SITD but got a LA for christmas - still figuring that machine out but and happy I'll not have to wrestle with my DM anymore!

My favorite part of the quilting process is making the top, from picking my pattern and fabric to cutting out the pieces and sewing the top.
I would have to say that I hate the sandwiching the most. It is tiring and painful.
As for the actual quilting, I either hand quilt or machine quilt on my sewing machine. I got alot of tops waiting to be quilted, including the first quilt top I made!
I would love to send my quilts out, but I simply can't afford to.

So far I have quilted all my own quilts. That may change in the future as I am piecing a quilt for my nephew and his wife and they picked out the pattern and fabrics. Not my favorite colors or style. I still want it to look as good as possible so might turn it over to a professional long armer. :-D

I quilt my own. Least favorite part is definitely sandwiching even though I use the spray baste. Most favorite part - picking out the fabric and getting started! My last several projects have been quilt as you go. It sure is nice to have the project completed so quickly.

On the quilting your own question, I love knowing it is all my creation, right or wrong. Love having a quilt in the frame, to plop down to work a few minutes whenever I get the time. also machine quilt some small things, like lap and baby quilts. Haven't yet tackled machine quilting a big quilt, but plan to quilt my log cabin, in the event it gets pieced one of these days. Have the fabric, but six other projects going, too:)

I have been quilting about 5 years now, first I hand tied, then I progressed to Stitch in the Ditch and now that I have discovered spray basting - I have moved on to free motion. The cost of sending something out to be done has me doing my thing at home :)

I love the entire process with the exception of the layering process. Wish I could find a way to go from piecing, putting together to quilting without layering, pinning and/or basting. Ha! I quilt my lap throws and small pieces but usually send out the big quilts to a longarm quilter.
