Here in the UK prices have rocketed. Of course much of the quilting fabric comes across the pond to us.

The current price many stores are selling fat quarters for is £3, sometimes more. Ouch-that's about $4.50!

Good job I've still got plenty of stash to bust

Maybe it was a fabric that is out of print and no longer found in stores? That would be my guess if paying premium for a FQ. Maybe the bidder really needed that particular pattern too.

I'd never pay more than $3, and it'd better be REAL special at that.

A few minutes ago I paid $2.99 each for several fat quarters on Ebay. It was a "buy it now", not an auction. These were fabrics that I have been looking for and couldn't find. So I bit the bullet and paid the $2.99 plus shipping. Normally I wouldn't dream of paying that kind of money for a quarter of a yard of fabric, but when you can't find what you need you will pay pretty much whatever they are asking.

You can get some good buys on Ebay, but you have to watch the shipping costs.

It's nutty, but it might reflect a situation where someone (or two competing bidders) have come up a little short for finishing a quilt and the fabric is hard to find where they are. Still, you have to hope they know what a fat quarter is and have exhausted all other possible sources.
