The newest Quilt Magazine has pumpkin squares set "wonky". That is the term they used and they basically sewed 2 inch strips to all 4 sides of their blocks. They turned the large square ruler "wonky" and cut 10 going right and 10 going left to vary the block placement. If you want them wonkier, you have to increase the sashing strips so you can tilt the square ruler more. There are pattern out there where you actually cut the long triangle pieces to make the blocks wonky but not my idea of fun. I imagine the bias edges would stretch on the triagles as you sew them to the blocks.
