My dh is a volunteer firefighter. On good years the town gives a small stipend to the ff based on attendance at trainings, weekly meetings and calls. Several years back he took the time to confer with a work colleague who is a quilter about scissors and small notions. On Christmas morning he was besside himself when he gently put a surprisingly heavy, large robe box on my lap and kissed me. Not only did this man put very thoughtful quilting notions in my stocking but he spent every penny of his stipend on fq's-that he picked out. I still have many of them and everytime I pull one out (yes, I am one of those people that can tell you where each piece of fabric in my stash came from) it takes me back to that Christmas morning.

full disclosure-I have also been know to confer with my woodworking colleagues for equally exciting gifts for him.

Wow...what a guy! My husband, who totally supports whatever I do with fabric, years and years ago bought me the first Touch and Sew Singer (on time as we were broke) to replace my little Singer Featherweight. Thank goodness he didn't use the Featherweight as a trade in. I still have it along with my sweet husband.

I am pretty sure my husband has never entered a quilt shop and don't quite think he will start now. THat would be a fabulous Christmas present to recieve though. What a lucky lady.

I am ugly jealous. It is true... I've asked DH for a gift card many times, but it's not the kind of thing he enjoys giving. Plus he is proud of being tighter than the bark on a tree (right now we have a 6" piece of painter's tape on the side of the refrigerator as he can use it again!), so would often get something "similar, but less expensive" when I gave him a list. We don't really exchange gifts - neither of us need anything, and have agreed that we will purchase our "wants" as finances allow. No excitement on Christmas morning, but no big disappointment, either.

That's a good husband! DH has talked about upgrading my Janome 6600 next year. His idea, not mine. As a mechanic, he knows good tools are better than cheap tools.
