I use a few different tables...folding table types..and I always sit to cut fabric..in a recliner or a desk chair...when in the recliner its always nice when I get tired to just sit back and close my eyes for a few minutes...lol...hard work deserves a few minutes of resting my eyes...LOL

I used to cut standing at a card table. After a while, my back would seize up. Take frequent breaks for now. If this is the only place you have to cut then everyone has given really good suggestions and maybe one of them will work for you. I now have a dedicated sewing room (actually disaster area). I set up a cutting table next to my sewing maching. I'm using a fold up TV tray table I bought at Walmart. I also bought a swivel desk chair so I can swivel from the sewing machine to the table and cut sitting down. To be honest, my back still occasionally gets tired (bad posture) so this isn't a complete fix. The good thing about the tray table is that it fits into a two foot space and it can be folded flat against the wall when not in use. So, maybe this may be a option for you as well. Good luck!

I purchased a folding banquet type table and put bed risers under the legs, i can then fold it up and store it out of the waqy after I cut up a bunch of fabric, I justify the table by using it when we have people over for a meal :roll: :roll:

i have a plastic table from sam,s or costco,that i brought several years ago it higher than a kitchen table and some even have where you can adjust the hieght of table or if it,s still to low you can buy risers or plastic piping

I have a cutting table that is counter height! Helps the back :-D

I'm vertically challenged too and relate to you back pains. Necessity is the mother of invention and the sugguestions that have been shared are the only way I found around a non adjustable table. Without a DH to build you a custom table we are pretty much left to the alternatives.

IF you have the means to invest. JoAnn's has a really neat table. Try to get a 50% discout coupon before you buy it. I've had mine for a few years now, use it for lots of things. I use yarn for my quilts, so I bought a higher chair to fit the JoAnn;s table and I can sit and tie. The table folds down to almost nothing when finished. Is in white. You could cover it and stick in front of window with plant on top when not in use. Just one idea. I also have a lot of back problems, so for me no matter what size the table is I will have difficulty. Like pjmarie says get it done in one day, in between a cup of coffee or tea. Good luck
