Bear"s Paw is a great two color pattern or the Ohio Star or just about any star pattern. Shoofly would be a good one too. or a checkerboard pattern.

Dina, thank you so much for taking the time to post the pics. To be honest, I'm afraid she is expecting more than a checkerboard. (She thinks I'm so creative, ha ha, little does she know where I get my help!) Now the blue and white is definitely a possibility. And it is pretty! LOL Thank you again!

Rhonda, more great ideas! Thank you! I love this board! Gosh, now I'll have another type problem - deciding which pattern to use! LOL

Wow, I never got a gift that I was supposed to make into something for someone else. I wonder if that would work with my husband? Maybe I could buy him a nice new table that he could set up for me in my sewing room. LOL

There are a lot of books about 2 color quilts and you can google them too. I would check that out to give yourself a visual. My first thought would be a turning 20. It will be rather booking with only 2 colors, but the different sizes and turning it different directions may give it a boost and you know for sure you have enough fabric.

Awww, scrapnut, I understand about sentimental. Just get the tissue ready, ok? When she was a very little girl, we had a nightly ritual every night when I tucked her in bed. As a part of this nightly routine, I always sang to her "I love you a bushel and peck, and a hug around the neck." Well, another gift from her was a wall hanging with those exact words on it. When I opened it, we both cried. I was just mad that I didn't find it first so I could have given it to her!

I Like Irish chain in two colors, or Jacob's lader.
