Great ideas! The magazine pattern suggested using different scraps of green prints. I didn’t have a variety of greens that matched color/tone well, and I already had plenty of solid green.

I love the look of prairie points, but hadn’t thought of them at all!

I can see a single simple red bird appliqued inside the branches to set off the red border. Perfection!

You have perfect design in the quilt. A lot of work on the sides would take from the design. I would just do the binding. I think it is gorgeous. I see several patterns in it.

    Great idea!!

..... or how about ghost-quilting the bird in place using a contrasting thread.
Likewise quilt-in presents in under the tree.
This way, you don't take from the simplistic beauty of the tree, yet have some added detail for the up-close-and-personal viewer!

I would border in the red and bind in the green. Would give the quilt more pop.

I suggest just binding, no added border or multiple colors. The more you add to it, the more it will take away from the tree. And the tree stands alone very well. Your picture already looks very nice as it is!
