janome 6500
I Might have a great deal on getting one of these for a really nice price...However, from what I understand, this machine is no longrer being made...Yet they are still selling like hot cakes.
What happens if you need parts/service down the road? Will that be like a mad treasure hunt to find?...Thanks

I have a Janome 6500 it is the fore runner of the 6600 and the new Horizon 7700. Mine is 6 yrs old and I think it was one of the earlier models. Many parts are similar in these machines along with some other Janomes. It is a great machine and if you get a good deal I would get it.

I don't think manufacturers are required to keep making parts for any specified amount of time. It's not a regulated market. I bought a Viking in 1995 and there are cassettes which you switch out for different stitches. But they no longer manufacture the cassettes and told me to try to find them on ebay.
It seemed like a lot of money to me in '95 (close to $2,000)for that machine but apparently they want you to buy new machines more frequently than I can afford.

I have a Janome 6500 and have used it steady for almost 6 years and have never had a problem with it. I would say if you can get a good deal on it you should go for it as it really is a great machine. I love mine.
