Okay, okay, I went back and read the rest of the posts and learned that maybe ....for SOME people....chicken vests/aprons isn't a bad idea, just a really weird one. But in the interest of domestic (chicken) violence prevention, why not try special covers on the dang rooster's feet? Sort of like the "raincoats" our guys sometimes....well, you know.
It's always the hens that have to take responsibility.

Jan, you always crack me up! I love your sense of humor.
The jokes are flying around our house too, believe me. My husband can't think of this without laughing so hard he loses his breath!

I was just smiling until I got to your post, Zozee, and then I just burst out laughing because I could just picture you trying to read it to your husband and cracking up! Thanks for the laugh! LOL!

Roosters are only needed if a person wants to have baby chicks but a hen will become a victim of the entire flock once she is injured. They peck her to death! Totally agree--such a determined rooster needs to disappear. He doesn't need to run with the flock all of the time. Give the girls a break! As to a covering for warmth--crazy.

My girls got chickens got their fancy-schmancy covers to protect their backs not necessarily to keep them warm. Over attentive roosters can denude a hen in no time at all, leaving them vulnerable to tears and cuts. My covers are like little denim and calico BBQ aprons worn over the back, held on with elastic.

In South Kingston, RI, there was a lady that dressed her chicken for all the holidays, even graduates at the University of RI, too. It was placed on top of her mailbox. She did that for many years. They were adorable.
